5 sessions from Mon 3 Apr 2023 [Show]
Join us for a week immersed in a wide range of explorative art and crafts activities.
Week 1, Monday 3 - Friday 7 April, will see the group exploring art through a plethora of techniques and themes.
We will look at story telling through different methods of collage, create sculptures using cardboard, wire, flour and plaster, a day of film design - have a film makers session to make a storyboard, sketching and creating costumes and props and taking on roles to act out your film. Print making using colour, shape and natures inspiration to create images transfers, pressings and prints and a day of abstract - looking at shape through mark making and mixed media using charcoal, watercolour, acrylics, collage and palette knives to add texture and patterns.
Kirsty Baxter is an artist, arts therapist and arts facilitator who has spent the last 7 years working creatively with various arts & wellbeing groups providing exciting workshops for both children and adults. Some of the returning children will know Kirsty as she assisted the artists at the October sessions and was a firm favourite with the group. We are looking forward to Kirsty re-joining us as a lead artist, and we can't wait for you to take part in her incredible workshops!
Day 1 - Exploring Collage
Join us as we explore collage and mixed media, using magazines, newspapers, paint, pen, pastel and other exciting materials including your own items from home. We will explore what abstract means and how to create it as well as letting the images you make inspire a story you will tell via story boarding.
Day 2 - Sculpture
We will be using a mix of cardboard and flour to start exploring sculpture starting with toilet roll holders. Later in the afternoon you will get the chance to pick your favourite story and create a scene from it using an old book, wire, tin foil and plaster of Paris!
Day 3 - Film Making
Today is all about film making – Forgan’s Style. We will start the day by devising as a class a film story through game and play onto a big story board. This could be anything from super hero epic to fairy-tale classic. We will sketch designs for costumes and props before creating them in the art workshop then film in the garden, allowing all children to take on roles from actor to director to photographer!
Day 4 – Gelli Plates
Explore the garden and let it inform your gelli plate printing. You will learn what a gelli plate is and how to use it to create amazing prints using nature, household objects and transferred images. In the afternoon we will make use of the garden and learn how to transfer leaves and flowers onto cloth as well as use them to create some nature clay pressings.
Day 5 - Abstract
From drawing upside down to finding shapes in images, we are going to try lots of different ways to reduce an image into its basic shapes and form. Today is about experimenting and we will use acrylic and watercolor to do so, looking at creating texture and marks with odd painting materials and techniques.
Individual day’s are now available for booking.
As always, children will need to bring their own packed lunch (and sunhat/sunscreen/raincoat if needed).
We hope to get outside into our beautiful grounds to explore as often as possible.
The club is for children aged 5-12 years and will run from 9am – 3.30pm
(drop off from 9am-9.30am, pick up 3.30pm sharp)
The club costs £28 per day.
This includes the provision of a wide range of art materials, refreshments and snack.
Please select the days that you wish to book, and for how many, then proceed to fill in their details.

The club is made up of a series of creative art activity workshops. If your child does not enjoy art, or a busy environment, please look to book them into a more suitable workshop. We want all of our children to get the most from their art club workshops, in a safe and happy environment.
