Join Artist Emma Henderson where for one week we will become hedgerow explorers through art & craft!
We’ll learn about the native trees and bushes commonly found in our hedgerows exploring them through sight, sound, texture and colour.
This will be a child led week of research so the daily activity may evolve to accommodate research and exploration coming from the group.
Covering a variety of printmaking techniques, mould making, storytelling and recipe making, this is an exciting week for art & nature lovers
MONDAY 1 AUG
Cyanotype sketchbooks
Using Cyanotype paper we will create sun prints from our materials. Once dry these prints will be used to create our own sketch books which can be taken home, or for those returning, can be used throughout the week. We will then spend some time working in our sketchbooks drawing flower and leaf shapes and identifying plants.
TUESDAY 2 AUG
Finding Forms
We will use clay and plaster of Paris to create moulds and relief shapes of the leaves we are finding moving onto try to recreate these forms ourselves with moulding techniques.
WEDNESDAY 3 AUG
Print Factory
Today we will focus on printing techniques such as making shapes and printing with polystyrene tiles, and experiment with printing directly with leaves, and flowers. We will also try our hand at hapazome printing, using the natural dyes of flowers and leaves to create a print.
THURSDAY 4 AUG
Printing with Nature
Today we will continue our experiments with Hapazome and try some bundle dying using natural materials and food waste.
We will use a couple of different eco dying and printing techniques. Any bundle dyes produced will remain at the Centre to be steamed and will need collected at the end of the follwoing week.
FRIDAY 5 AUG
Screen Printing
We will work collaboratively with a number of silk screens to create a set of stencils that can be used together. Then we will have fun layering prints of top of each other to make collaborative artworks.
This Summer, we have visiting artists coming in to teach the children. They will deliver a range of activities through the week under their chosen theme and be supported by 2 children's playworkers.
